What is water-harvesting ? What is its importance ?

Collection of rain water or flood water so that they can be utilized in future is known as water harvesting

Importance of water harvesting:

1. They recharge the ground water.
2. They can be used for drinking and other domestic purpose.
3. Water can be used throughout the year.
4. Reduce stormwater discharges, urban floods and overloading of sewage treatment plants
5. Reduce seawater ingress in coastal areas.
6. They act as water for irrigation.
