What is Hoffmann bromamide degradation reaction?

When the acid amides on reaction with Br2 in the presence of alkalies at about 343 K give primary amine, then the reaction is known as Hoffmann Bromamide Reaction. It may be noted that the amine formed by the Hoffmann Bromamide reaction has one carbon atom less than the parent compound

Hoffmann Bromamide Degradation:  In this reaction amide strongly heated with bromine and caustic alkali then decarboxylation take place and amide is converted into primery amine.

In this reaction, migration of alkylor aryl group takes place from carbonyl carbon to nitrogen atom. This reaction can also be used in descent series. R-CO-NH2 + Br2 + NaOH -> R-NH2 + Na2CO3 + NaBr + H2O Kindly ignore the spaces in between
