What kind of relationship does the father want to build up with his son in the poem 'Father to son'? Why?

Mostly son is always inclined towards his mother.

Father and son relations takes a back gear but the father wants his son not to do the mistakes which he had done whether a career,girlfriend etc.

He wants a friend in his son. Father always wants the support of his son.
