what makes a coaster placed over the rim of a glass of water stick even when youinvert it?

It is all due to the pressure of the air next to the coaster caused it to hold tight.The air pressure keeps the water from falling out of the glass. The atmospheric pressure i.e. the air pressure outside the glass is greater than the water pressure inside the glass so it holds the coaster onto the glass.
