What's the difference between "i used to write" and "i wrote"

'Used to' is used as an auxiliary to express habitual or accustomed actions, states, etc., taking place in the past but not continuing into the present. However, the other sentence mentioned by you is in simple past tense which talks about a thing which recently took place as well as was completed in the past.
