What should be the weight of carbon monoxide to have the same number of oxygen atoms as in 22 g of carbon dioxide?
C + O2 → CO2
Molar mass of CO2= 44
So, 22 g of CO2 is 0.5 mole.
1 mole of O2 is used to form 1 mole of CO2.
∴ 0.5 mole of CO2 will have 0.5 mole of O2= 0.5 * 6.022 * 1023
= 3.011 * 6.022 * 1023
C + ½ O2 → CO
So, 0.5 mole O2 is used to form 1 mole of CO.
1 mole of CO= 28 g.
∴ x/ 28 = 0.5
x= 14 g.
Thus, 14 gm CO will have same number of oxygen atoms as 22 g of CO2.
