What Streptococcus pneumonia does after reaching into alveolis?

Dear Student, after entering the lung alveoli, Streptococcus pneumoniae causes the lung alveoli to secrete serous fluid that is usually stimulated by the cell wall of bactetia. Through this fluid, bacteria is able to spread throughout the lungs. Then, the neutrophils that come near bacteria due to chemotactic signals invade the alveoli. After this, alveoli are filled up with neutrophils and fluid. This leads to pneumonia in human that is mainly due to host's inflammatory response. If the bacteria persist in lungs, then it may enter blood causing bacteremia or it may enter meninges causing meningitis. Further details are not appropriate for your class. If you still have any doubt then, please ask by posting another question. Regards
