What thoughts ran across Franz's mind as he walked towards the school?

Dear Student,
While going to school, Franz was scared of getting a scolding from his teacher, M Hamel, as he was about to ask them questions on participles and Franz did not know the first word about them. For a moment he thought about running away and spending the day out of doors. The day was bright and warm. Birds were chirping at the edge of the woods and the Prussian soldiers were drilling in the open field at the back of the sawmill. It was a day that seemed more tempting to Franz than the rule of participles. When he saw a crowd in front of the bulletin-board he wondered what the matter could now be for all their bad news had come from that place. But ultimately he reached M Hamel's little garden breathless.
