What was Jerome’s reaction when Harris accused him of encouraging Montmorency?

Jerome was taken aback when Harris accused him of encouraging Montmorency. He refused to accept this as he knew that a dog like him didn't need any encouragement. Jerome also believed that it was the natural sin which was inborn, which forced him to do naughty things.
