What was the reaction of the otis family after the first attempt of the ghost to scare them?

The first attempt made by the ghost to scare the Otis family was through the blood stain that appeared and reappeared in the library. Despite Washington cleaning up the stain and the library being locked at night, the stain would always be there the next morning. Strangely, it even kept changing colour. But, the family was not scared or worried, except Virginia who nearly cried the day the stain became emerald green. The ghost was sighted for the first time by Mr Otis when he was rudely woken up by the clanking noise made by the ghost's chains. He promptly got up and gave him a bottle of lubricant so that the noise would stop. the twins threw a pillow at the ghost which made him retreat to his room.
