It was when the author moved to the city. A lot of things changed his grandmother could no longer accompany him to his school as he began going in a motor bus, she could no longer help him with his lessons beacuse she didn't know english and she was upset bout the fact that there were no teachings about the scriptues in the city school. All these reasons developed a gap between them . :)

The author- Khushwant Singh and his grandmother moved on to the city. This was the point when the tie between the grandmother and the author loosened. The author went to an English School in a motor bus and hence, the grandmother no longer accompanied him to school. The subjects taught at school was very hard to understand for the grandmother and unlike the time he used to study in the village, she couldn't help him in his studies. The music classes taken in the author's school was a matter of disapproval. She considered music to e the monopoly of harlots and beggars and not meant for the gentlefolk. These incidents caused a turning point in the friendship of Khushwant Singh and his grandmother.
