● After the great revolt of 1857 the british pased the vernacular press act to check the uprising of the nationalists ●In 1878'vernacular press act was passed,modelled on the irish press laws ●It provided the govt with extensive rights to censor reports and editorials in the vernacular press ● When a report was judged seditious the concerned newspaper was given a warning ● If the warning was ignored,the concerned authorities was liable to be seized by the govt. -
