In 1854, the Government declared its intention of " creating a properly articulated syatem of education from primary to thr university stage ". Sir Charles Wood sent a Dispatch to the Governor - General of India Lord Dalhousie with some reccomendations. This is famous as Wood's Dispatch.
Reccomendations -
- Setting up of education departments in the Provinces.
- Universities to be set up in each of the Presidency towns of Calcutta, Bombay and Madras.
- Government schools to be opened in each district.
- Govenment grants to be given to private schools and colleges,
- Indian Educatiuon Service to be introduced to recruit teachers for government insitutions.
