What were his views on marriage? Did a change and how?

Ranga had wanted an educated and urbane wife, not a village belle who would not be able to stimulate him intellectually. However, he became taken with Ratna as soon as he saw her. Ratna had come in wearing a grand saree. The narrator had asked her to sit in his room and requested her to sing a song, then sent for Ranga. Ratna was singing a song when Ranga reached the door. He did not want the singing to stop but he was curious to see the singer. Carefully, he peeped in and since the light coming into the room was blocked, Ratna also looked up at that time and seeing a stranger, stopped abruptly. Ranga's face fell when the singing stopped and he came in and sat on a chair. Ratna stood at a distance with her head lowered while Ranga repeatedly glanced at her. Once, his eyes met with the narrator's and he seemed to be very embarrassed. No one spoke for a while because of the awkwardness of the situation. They both felt really shy although it was evident that Ranga was smitten by Ratna. â€‹His views changed and he became enamoured of the village belle.
