what were shahids views on religion?

Shahid was respectful of religion but he remained a firm believer in the separation of politics and religious practice. Shahid's gaze was not political in the sense of being framed in terms of policy and solutions but his vision tended towards an inclusive approach considering his upbringing. He spoke of a time in his childhood when he had been seized by the desire to create a small Hindu temple in his room in Srinagar. He was initially hesitant to tell his parents but when they responded enthusiastically, he found the courage to do so. His mother bought him murtis and other paraphernalia while his father conducted the pujas in his shrine. So, whenever people talked about Muslim fanaticism, he would tell them how his mother had helped make a temple in his room. His attitude towards religion was that of openness and tolerance, religion did not define his spiritual outlook but broadened it.
