Magadha rose to power due to the following reasons:

• The strategic locations of both Rajgirh and Pataliputra proved advantageous.
• Magadha was rich in natural resources like iron and it helped them to make weapons in large quantities.
• Iron ploughs also facilitated the expansion of agricultural lands. Magadha was situated in the Gangetic basin area which had rich and fertile soil and thus agricultural activity expanded.
• Metallic money that had come to use in Magadha also facilitated trade and commerce.
• Unorthodox character of Magadhan society.
• Magadha was also lucky to get several ambitious rulers, whose ambitious policies helped to earn prestige.
