The journey to Mount Kailash was full of challenges. The undulating topography, the extreme weather conditions and the lack of boarding and lodging facilities were main challenges faced by the narrator. He also fell seriously ill at Darchen and developed breathing difficulties due to a blocked nostril. His transporter Tsetan left him alone in Darchen and returned to Lhasa. Since people in Darchen barely knew English, he had no one with whom he could communicate.
