What were the drawbacks of the British system of education ?
Dear Student,
British education system in India which has formed the foundation of our current education system was intorduced mainly to cater to the selfish needs of the administrators and way of realising their expansionist policies over incumbent colonies. Indian Education system, though never existed centrally but had seen stalwarts in almost each field be it Medicine, Astrology, Mathematics, other fields of Sciences, Economics, Commerce that all was rooted in our traditional learning methods and pedagogy learnt through the famous Gurukul system where the importance of Teacher- Disciple relationship was given more weight.
British system of Education on the other hand was centered mainly on their Language- English, taught only to a select few for incubating translators at a subordinate level as mediators between the high ranking british classes and the underprivileged depressed Indians. Major expenditure of British allocations used to be directed to the Military expenses. It has always remained an education framework where theoritical information could be rote learnt but their applications require a completely new appraoch bring a concept to its practice. With a complete overhaul of the system, Indian education framework could enhance the quality of knoweldge and application for the future of India.
Regards.
