  2. What was shifting cultivation?

  3. When was the forest Act enacted? When was it amended and what were the three categories under which forests were divided?

2. Shifting cultivation referred to that type of cultivation where the farmers cut down the trees and cleared the land for cultivation.  They burn the uprooted trees and mix their ashes into the soil to make it fertile. After the cultivation and harvesting is over they again shift to another land and repeat the same process. This is also known as burn and slash agriculture.
