what were the hurtful influences on the institution of slavery for blacks ?

Blacks were not allowed access to education or the space to claim their political rights. They were denigrated publicly by white supremacists, debarred from access to social, political and economic benefits and privileges allowed to every citizen of a nation. They had to prove they were human beings to be treated at par with their white counterparts before they could claim their human rights.
