What were the ways the seagull had thought of joining his family?

There is no mention in the text of the ways in which the seagull had thought of joining his family.
But, he definitely yearned to join them as his hunger got the better of him and his fear of flying. He observed his siblings flying and then his brother catching his first fish, he looked longingly at his mother tearing at a piece of fish and wished he could get a morsel.
