What will happen if a deshelled egg is dipped in a) hypotonic ,b) hypertonic, and c)isotonic solution? Divide the ans in 3 parts for each solution.

Dear student,
Now the egg is covered with only semipermeable membrane. When this is placed in a salt solution (hypertonic solution), exosmosis occurs and the egg shrinks due to loss of water to the surrounding.
So, when the cell are kept in hypertonic solution then concentration of solutes is greater outside the cell than inside. I.e. the cell will shrink.
if placed in hypotonic solution then the greatest concentration of water is outside the cell. I.e. the cell will swell.
whereas when placed in isotonic solution there would be no change. the exchange of water molecules in and out of the cell would be equal.
Hope it helps
Regards
