What will happen if we add water to acid?

Addition of water to acid is a vigorous exothermic reaction. When we add water to acid, water boils and the acid may splash and harm us.

Reaction of water and acid is an exothermic reaction so if water is added to acid then a splash could come and harm us even this could result in breaking of test tube thus it is always prefered to add acid drop by drop in water while stirring the solution
