When an ant sting a person, the solution of substance A is rubbed on the stung area of the skin to get relief from pain. The substance A is also used in kitchen for cooking purposes. Another substance B is sour in taste and contains organic acid C. It is used in making pickle. When solution of A is mixed with B then a change D takes place to produce bubbles of gas E.
(i) Name the following - A, B, C, D and E

Dear Student,

When an ant sting a person, the solution of substance A is rubbed on the stung area of the skin to get relief from pain.

Ant venom is acidic and hence has to be treated with a base (baking soda) to neutralise it.

A = Baking Soda (NaHCO3)

Baking Soda (NaHCO3) is used in kitchen for baking purpose.

B is sour in taste and contains organic acid C. It is used in making pickle

B is vinegar and it is used for making pickle and it contain Acetic acid (C).

When Baking soda react with acetic acid then
sodium acetate, carbon dioxide(E) is formed.

Carbon dioxide evolve with Bubbles.

NaHCO3 + HC2H3O2 → NaC2H3O2 + H2O + CO2
