when do we add -ate in the IUPAC nomenclature of coordination compounds?
Dear student
If the coordination sphere of the complex, has negative charge , then the name of the central metal atom ends in ate, and the oxidation state of the metal is written in Roman numerals in a bracket at the end of the name of the metal atom.
For example: Cr: Chromate ; Co: Cobaltate
For example: Na2[CrOF4]is named as Sodiumtetraflourooxochromate(IV)
