When water is an abundant substance on the Earth, why do we need to conserve it?

Because 96.5% of the total volume exists as saline water and is unfit for human consumption and only 2.5% exists as fresh water out of which more than 70% is stored as ice in the form of glaciers and less than 30% is stored as groundwater

It's necessary to conserve water as 97% of the water is present in the seas and the oceans which is saline and is not fit for domestic usage. 2% of the left water is always frozen in the glaciers at the polea and only 1% of the whole water is available for human consumption.
