When we enter a movie hall which is dark inside, we are not able to see anything. But after sometime, we can see the steps and seats. Why?
Because when we came in he cinema hall outside environment has a source of light but when we come in the dark place out eyes take little bit time to see in the dark place i.e cinema hall.

Because when we enter in a dark place our eye cells also known as rod cells and cone cells time some time to be activated on their function. Rod cells generates clear black and white image and cone cells add colour to the picture and the both cell's functions combine to get a clear image. When we go in a dark place our cells are generally not used to it but after sometime we get a clear image.

Out side the cinema hall the lights are giving light so our eyes give signals to the brain and the brain gives them back by nerves to shrink the eyeball for less light so it does not become bright and when we just enter the cinema hall our eyeballs had shrinked so less light gets focused on the retina so our eyes give signals to the brain and the brain gives them back thus telling the eyeballs to expand so more light gets focused on the retina so we can see the chairs, benches again.as any thing cannot adapt to the surroundings without information.it takes time to collect this information thus you see everything slowly and steadily

When you enter a dark movie hall we can't see most of the things in in the room but we can see thin strips of neon lights on the stairs because the workers of the theater had put some strips of neon lights so that people don't fall off when they go downstairs thinking the stairs of being flat floor.
