When water boils in a pot with a loose lid, the vapours of water is
formed due to heating This vapour is trapped between the water
surface and the lid The pressure of water vapour gets build up The
increased pressure forces the lid upward, releasing steam and
reducing the pressure in the pot so that the lid drops back down If
the water continues to boil, the lid can rattle upward and downward
