pure leather( or raw leather ) is biodegradable but commercial leather( used for shoes, wallet,etc ) is treated with chemicals to make it long lasting so they are very difficult to decompose, hence commercial leather are non biodegradable( sort of )

yes ..cheap leathers are usually processed with chemicals .these are non biodegraable.because the decaying enzymes of decomposers do not work.but the leathers which are not processed in chemicals for biodegradable.
