Which energy level does not have a p-orbital ?
Dear student,
According to quantum principles,
Each energy level (Denoted by n) contains subshells (Denoted by l).
The value of l assumes all the value that lie in the range of 0 to n-1.
l = 0 ---------- s subshell
l = 1 ---------- p subshell
l = 2 ---------- d subshell
l = 3 ---------- f subshell
For n=1 i.e for the first energy level, the value of l cannot be one according to the above mentioned rule, Hence p subshell is not possible and hence no p orbital can be present in n=1 energy level.
Hope this helps,
Regards
