 ah sure

The action of manganese dioxide on hydrochloric acid proceeds in two stages. The dark brown solution formed in the cold contains a higher chloride of manganese, MnCl4 or MnCl3, which breaks up on warming with liberation of chlorine:

MnO2 + 4HCl = MnCl4 + 2H2O;

MnCl4 = MnCl2 + Cl2;

2MnO2 + 8HCl = 2MnCl3 + Cl2 + 4H2O; 2MnCl3 = 2MnCl2 + Cl2.

HAPPY??

Dear Student,

Your friend has correctly answered the question.the equation can be represented in one step as :

MnO2 + 4 HCl MnCl2 + 2 H2O + Cl2

Hope it helps.

Cheers!

@tehnoob:very good attempt.Keep it Up!thumbs up!
