Which of the following enzymes carries out the initial step in the digestion of milk in humans? AIPMT 2011

a)Rennin b)Lipase

c)Trypsin d)Pepsin

The answer is given as pepsin, but in infants it is rennin. Kindly explain it sir/mam.

The correct option is d.
The main protein digesting enzyme in the stomach of humans is pepsin. In human infants, rennin is also present in small amounts but not in adults.
Rennin help in curdling of the milk. Curdling makes the milk to stay longer in the gut and so that pepsin has a longer time to act upon this.
