which of the following waves can be polarised.(i) heat waves (ii) sound wave?and why.

i) Heat wave can be polarized.

Heat waves are actually infrared electromagnetic waves. As because electromagnetic waves are transversal in nature, so it can be polarized.

ii) Sound waves cannot be polarized.

Sound waves in gases and liquids are longitudinal in nature. Longitudinal wave cannot be polarized.

sound waves cannot be polarised because the are longitudional in nature..

since the vibration are parallel to the plane of transimittion there is no meaning of polarisation for longitudional waves..

*Heatis an example oftransversewave. hence can be polarised

what is polarisation?

generallywavesthat canoscillatewith more than one orientation in space..

polarisation means orienting its field vector along only a perticular plane(lenier polarisation)

circular polarisation means if you take the projection of tip of electric field vector in a plane paerpendicular to the direction of transmission it appears to rotate in a circle..

elleptical polarisation means if you take the projection of tip of electric field vector in a plane paerpendicular to the direction of transmission it appears to rotate in a ellipse..

furthur there are lot of methods and orientations in which the transverse wave can be polarised.
