Which principle is used for measuring time in clocks and watches?

Dear Student,

Clocks and watches, basically use the principle of oscillation or a pendulum to measure the time. The length of a 1 day (24 hours) is divided into minutes and seconds. A clock or watch is devised such that 1 revolution or a turn around a clock is 12 hours (1/2 day) with a long hand indicating hour, shorter one indicating the minute as well as a seconds hand.
