Which river is known as Dakshin Ganga? State any two characteristics of it????????????

The Godavari river is known as Dakshin Ganga. Godavari is the largest peninsular river and has a total length of 1500km. It rises from the slopes of the western ghats in the Nasik district of Maharashtra. The Godavari basin covers parts of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. Some of its tributaries are Purna, Wardha, Pranhita and Manjra.

Dakshina” means “South”. The Godavari River is known as ‘Dakshina Ganga’ i.e. “River  Ganga of South India”.River Godavari  is the largest river of the south India.It forms the largest river basin in the peninsula, as the Ganga in the north. It is, however, much smaller than the Ganga basin.
