Which special provisions are provided to some states of India

Dear Student,

Articles 371 to 371-J in Part XXI of the constitution deal with special provisions to some states of India. Some of the special provisions include:

1. Under Article 371, the president is authorised to provide that Governors of Maharashtra and Gujarat would have special responsibility for establishment of separate development boards for Vidarbha, Marathwada, Saurashtra, Kutch and other areas.

2. For Assam and Manipur states, the president is empowered to create respective committees of Assam Legislative Assembly consisting of the members elected from the tribal areas of the state.

3. For Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the president is empowered to provide for equal opportunities for people belonging to different parts of the states in matters of public employment and education. Emphasis was given to organise local cadres for different parts of the state and recruitments were done at the local level itself.

4. There are many other special provisions being provided in the constitution for north eastern states such as Nagaland, Sikkim, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, etc.

Regards
