Bihar was the first state to adopt the Panchayati Raj System under the Bihar Panchayat Raj Act of 1947. Later , this system was implemented by Rajasthan on 2nd October, 1959 in the Nagaur district. Hence, Rajasthan became the first state to introduce Panchayat system in India after independence.
