which two national anthems was sung in South Africa on 10th May 1994 and why

When South Africa became free of apartheid in 1994,their new president Mr.Nelson Mandela declared that both the national anthems "Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika" and the previous national anthem "Die Stem van Suid-Afrika" (English: "The Call of South Africa") would be national anthems.
This was done as a sign of equality between the blacks and the whites. One anthem was sung by the blacks whereas the other was sung by the whites.
