which world do these children belong to? which world is inaccessible to them?

Stephen Spender's "An Elementary School Classroom in a Slum" reflects on the paradox that children living in slums do not have their basic necessities fulfilled, yet their classroom is covered with pictures of affluent cities and the "Tyrolese valley". The children belong to families who are nearly destitute and the children themselves are emaciated. However, there are pictures of Shakespeare in their classroom. Their vacant expressions and day dreams are the only respite that these children have. They can only hope that one day an inspector will take pity on them and save them from become slum dwellers like their parents. The children live in a world of harsh reality, where having four square meals in a day seems to be a luxury. Their hope is to escape this world and live in reasonable comfort. The poet too fervently hopes that the gap between the world they belong to and the world they aspire to become a part of is finally bridged.
