whih chloride is most reactive towards aq naoh in

benzy chlorides
and why
Methyl chloride is most reactive towards aqueous NaOH. This reaction is a nucleophilic substitution reaction in which the nucleophile OH- from NaOH replaces Cl- ion. The C-Cl bond in alkyl chlorides is weak as compared to C-Cl bond in chloro benzene and vinyl chloride. The C-Cl bond in chloro benzene has a partial double bond character due to delocalization of lone pair of electrons on Cl atom and the C-Cl bond in vinyl chloride has a partial double bond character due to interaction of p orbitals of carbon atom and chlorine atom. Benzyl chloride undergoes nucleophilic substitution reactions also but less readily as compared to alkyl chlorides.
