Who is Newlands?

DEAR STUDENT,
John Newlands was an English chemist from London who gave the Law of Octaves states according to which when Elements are arranged in increasing order of Atomic Mass, the properties of every eighth Element starting from any Element are a repetition of the properties of the starting Element. Newlands was one of the first to detect a periodic pattern in the properties of the elements and anticipated later developments of the periodic law. He also said that the elements with greater atomic masses cannot accommodate octaves and could not fit into the octave pattern.
