Who made the word 'micro-organism? And why?

Dear Student, Antonie van Leeuwenhoek first use the term in 1670 as they are only observed under microscope. They are too small to be viewed by the unaided eye . Microorganism is a microscopic organism, which may exist in its single-celled form or in a colony of cells. Regards.
