who was Ali

Ali is the protagonist of the story "The Letter". Ali used to be a clever shikari. When Ali's daughter Miriam married a soldier and left him, Ali's life changed. He could no longer enjoy hunting. He would go to the post office everyday in the morning at 4 and stay there till the evening waiting for his daughter's letter. Patience, love for his daughter and faith in the divine kept him warm in the bitter cold. Despite five years passing by he still awaited the letter and did not lose hope.
