Who was sir edward gait and what was the result of gandhi's meeting with him

Dear student

Sir Edward Gait was the Lieutenant-Governor. He met with Gandhi and had four long interviews. As a result of this, he appointed an official commission to inquire into the indigo sharecroppers’ situation. The commission consisted of
landlords, government officials, and Gandhi as the sole representative of the peasants. The inquiry managed to assemble a mountain of evidence against the big planters. As a result, the landlords agreed to pay refunds to the peasants.
