WHO WERE MODERATES AND RADICALS ???

The moderates were the early political leaders of Indian National Congress who adopted the method of pacification, petitioning but extremists were who adopted revolutionary methods like bombing, shooting or attacking the British officers and their families. These were different than the radicals who adopted the method of passive resistance, boycott and swadeshi.

Moderates:

The leaders of the early phase of the Congress were called the Moderates. For, they believed in the British sense of justice and expected that they would remove the grievances of the Indians once they were aware of these.

Thus the Moderates raised the hopes and aspirations of the Indians in the resolutions adopted in different sessions and meetings of the Congress.

Radicals-

  • They were against the English rule in India
  • They were in favour of strikes and boycott to remove British from India.
