wht is reverberation ? what will happen if reverberation time in a big hall is too long? how can we reduce it?

Reverberation: The phenomenon of overlapping of sound caused by multiple reflections is called reverberation. This causes the overlapping of several reflected waves. If the time gap between the reflected waves is so short that these cannot be distinguished. So we hear multiple noisy sounds.

And if the time gap between the reflected waves are too long then we hear clear sound that is called echo.

We reduce reverberation by making the walls with sound absorbing material so that multiple reflection of does not take place.

Reverberation

Reverberation is the collection of reflected sounds from the surfaces in an enclosure like an auditorium. It is a desirable property of auditoriums to the extent that it helps to overcome the inverse square law dropoff of sound intensity in the enclosure. However, if it is excessive, it makes the sounds run together with loss of articulation - the sound becomes muddy, garbled. To quantitatively characterize the reverberation, the paramater called the reverberation time is used.

Reverberant sound is the collection of all the reflected sounds in an auditorium.

The phenomenon of overlapping of sound caused by multiple reflections is called reverberation . This causes the overlapping of several echoes. The time gap between several echoes is so short that these cannot be distinguished. So we hear multiple noisy echoes. For example, when we shout in a cave, reverberation of sound occurs.
