why anaerobic respiration cannot continue for long in higher organism?

Anaerobic respiration cannot continue for long in higher organisms because in higher organisms during anaerobic process more substrate is decomposed this left very little amount for growth and repair and hence yield little energy. The other reason is the higher concentration of toxicity due to the end products and intermediates which results in discontinuation of anaerobic respiration.
