Why are electrons fundamental particles of all atoms

In Chemistry, fundamental particles means the particle which cannot be split into sub particles. So, atom can be split in sub atomic particles - electrons , protons, neutrons.
Protons can be split into subparticle called quarks, Neutrons can be also split into quarks but electrons cannot be split into any subparticle. So, electrons are called fundamental particles.
