why are glycerol called trihydroxy propane??? plz answer before 27 September 2015

In the structure of glycerol, three -OH groups are attached to 3 carbons of propane respectively. Acc to IUPAC nomenclature, 'hydroxy' is preffix used for -OH groups. Since three -OH groups are attached, so it is named as trihydroxy propane.
