why are lyophilic colloids stable and lyophobic unstable? Is it because the former is solvent loving and the latter is solvent hating? Explain.

Yes, lyophilic sols are solvent loving and hence there is an existence of strong intermolecular forces because of which the colloid particles are always solvtaed.

On the other hand, In lyophobic sols such forces are absent and hence there is no solvation of the colloid particles making the sol unstable.

lyophillic colloids are solvent loving as they get dissolved in the solvent due to strong intermolecular force of attraction whereas lyophobic remain over the surface or donot get dissolved .
